TACTILE, SELF

2020 / Adelaide Film Festival / Adelaide Festival Screen / Newmarch Gallery / East End Moving Image Projector, City of Adelaide

This project was created in partnership with Adelaide FIlm Festival, who invited two emerging artists with a passion for moving image to make artworks thematically responding to a selection of curated films.

Tactile, Self, is response to ideas of self-expression and authenticity through fashion, prevalent throughout Alison Ellwood’s documentary ‘The Go-Go’s’. Shot entirely through a macro lens, Tactile, Self is a sensorial exploration of the artist’s own experiences with materials and objects that are closely tied to her sense of self. Tactile, Self, extends on the artist’s examination of the intimacy that is achieved by drawing attention to the camera’s tactility. The close framing and deprivation of context to each object reduces these materials to textures, colours and surfaces - details usually reserved only for those in close physical proximity.

This project was developed in partnership with Adelaide Central School of Art, who generously funded a mentorship between Georgia Button and internationally acclaimed collective SODA_JERK as part of this project.
